I actually don't think Reagan went all the way through with that, but he did sign the Mulford Act into law when he was governor which was a bill that repealed a law allowing public carrying of loaded firearms. At that time, it not only had Democrat support, but Republican support, and even the support of the NRA. But then, that was back when the NRA actually cared about gun safety and education and viewed the 2-A's clause where it says "well regulated" as an important safe guard to keep our rights intact. The NRA changed positions when the gun lobby (Remington/Colt/Winchester/etc) started getting pissed that gun sales were going down. They started paying off Republicans with campaign donations if they played this game where they convinced people they needed to have a gun and that those mean ole' Democrats, who were still for the same regulations that the NRA and Republicans had long backed, were gonna take those guns away. So what they would do, is whip people up into a frenzy every time an election was near knowing fully well the BS they were feeding people would put this thought into their heads that they need to stock up on more guns because "Democrats wanna take them". I guess I get why they would do it, it helps profits, but after doing it for over 30 years, I think it has caused a rift in our society where people just assume if you are a Democrat, then you are for gun control. I guess what I find funny, is I grew up here in Iowa and Nebraska all my life, always out huntin and fishin with my friends. Some are Democrats, most are Republicans. Political differences had no impact on that friendship at all. It's a damn shame to see people, and I don't care which party you want to blame, just being hateful to each other.
